Dezi Ray, is a renowned South African entertainer and singer.
She has performed at all the top venues throughout the country and has also performed abroad. Her repertoire is extensive, ranging from contemporary music; music from the musicals, jazz and current chart topping material. Her music has taken her from Cape Town’s foremost jazz restaurant, The Green Dolphin, to the world famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore. She is a household name in her own country.
Dezi won an Artes Award from the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for her contribution in the “light music” category.
Under the direction of the late Gerry Bosman, Dezi appeared with all the different symphony orchestras throughout the land. She appeared with the Natal Philharmonic in Durban, with the National Symphony Orchestra in Johannesburg (many times) and with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, too many times to mention. Gerry devised and orchestrated his Symphonic Pops for which he became famous, with Dezi in mind. She also performed with Gerry Bosman’s big band at the Nico Malan, Stellenbosch Farmer’s Winery, at the Nederberg Estate and at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg and at the Gallager Estate in Pretoria.
Since moving back to the Cape, Dezi had performed at the Baxter; the City Hall in a Tribute to the late Gerry Bosman; at the Green Dolphin; at Uitsig Restaurant in cabaret etc. Her latest performances are listed below. A feather in her cap has to be her performance at the famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore where she was flown across to do a New Year’s Eve gig with an 18 piece band a few years ago.
